This is a large plastic pan that goes underneath an air handler or furnace and evaporator coil installed in an attic. Its purpose is home safety. 

In the event your equipment should leak water due to a malfunctioning of the drain system, the water will be caught in this pan and drained away. The pan has a 3/4 inch female drain fiitting on the center of the long side. 

Some cities require by code that a secondary drain pan be installed for all attic air conditioning, air handler or evaporator coil installations. We recommend that you install a drain pan with a float switch in your new attic system. We also recommend using the Alpine EPS FM (2-Pack) with this drain pan to elevate the equipment above the drain pan. 

For optimal performance make sure that the drain pan is the correct size for the equipment you are using it with.
