Have you grown tired of dealing with the rising costs and constant maintenance of your home's central HVAC system?

Do you find it annoying that you can't control which rooms to heat or keep cool when you want to?

Are bulky, inefficient window units not for you?

Then, enter the Blueridge ductless mini split air conditioning system—a new concept for an age-old problem.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • Heating and cooling our homes and businesses is a high priority for most of us.
  • Traditional HVAC systems are expensive and not environmentally friendly.
  • As technology advances, traditional HVAC systems are being replaced by better alternatives.
  • Ductless mini split systems are an excellent way to heat and cool our homes and businesses.
  • Take time to explore the benefits of a ductless mini split AC system before you commit.

Finding ways to heat and cool our homes efficiently and cost-effectively is becoming an increasingly important priority.

Not only that, but growing concerns about how our energy consumption affects our planet are no longer something we can ignore.

Though they may have served us well in the past, traditional heating and cooling methods now have substantial drawbacks for our modern times and are no longer seen as the best way to control our indoor climates.

And the damage they are doing to our outdoor climate is not for the best either.

Ductless mini split air conditioning systems might be the answer we are all looking for.

You are not alone if you're ready to consider a ductless air conditioning system for your home or business.

Let's explore what a mini-split system is, why it works much more efficiently than traditional air conditioning systems, and how it can make a big difference in helping you control your home or business climate and your overall cost to install a single-zone or multi-zone mini split.

The Rise of Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioning Systems

Imagine enjoying personalized comfort in every room, reduced energy costs, and straightforward installation—all in one package.

In simplest terms, ductless mini-split systems are heating and air conditioning systems that are much more compact and convenient to use than the traditional air conditioning systems of the past.

Central forced air systems grew in popularity during the mid-20th century, particularly after World War II, and have been the preferred method of heating and cooling homes, businesses and gathering spaces ever since.

However, as the demand for central forced air systems has increased, so has awareness of their limitations and drawbacks.

Downsides to Central Air Conditioners for Your Home or Business

One of the main concerns that has emerged with the growth of central forced air systems is the inefficiency often caused by the extensive ductwork needed to distribute the conditioned air.

Ducts are necessary to move air through a typical central AC system; installing distribution ductwork can be expensive (and sometimes impossible) if you don't already have it.

And even if you do have a ducted system already in place, existing ductwork can have a host of issues, such as needing to be sealed and cleaned regularly.

Without proper maintenance, neglected ductwork can begin to harbor mold and mildew that can easily end up in the air you breathe and greatly affect indoor air quality.

As ductwork begins to age, it can also leak, leading to energy wastage and reduced performance of the entire indoor unit.

Downside to Central Air Conditioners for the Environment

Thanks to ongoing research, it has become more apparent that our traditional HVAC systems are less ideal for our environment than we have realized in the past.

In fact, according to the United States Department of Energy, Americans release roughly 117 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the air each year just by using their air conditioners.

To put this in perspective, we would need to plant approximately 8 million acres of forest to compensate for this amount of CO2 each year, an area about the size of Maryland.

But combating this number is no longer the challenge it once was.

How Ductless Mini Split Systems Are Making a Difference

More than ever, we are seeing huge advancements in improving the energy efficiency of air conditioning systems and promoting the adoption of greener alternatives.

One such advancement is the increasing popularity of ductless mini split system indoor units.

Ductless mini-split systems are an excellent choice for various home, business, or community space needs.

Blueridge ductless system condenser (outdoor unit)

While larger split systems rely on ductwork to carry treated air throughout the home, ductless mini-split systems deliver treated air to each room individually without using ducts.

Certain ductless mini splits—such as the Blueridge mini-split systems—consist of an outdoor unit called a condenser (or a mini split heat pump) and an indoor unit that can easily be mounted on an exterior wall.

The two components then easily connect with mini-split line sets, electrical wiring, and copper tubing, which allows the refrigerant to flow through and heat or cool the area as needed. The mini split line set is hidden and protected by mini split line set covers.

The Top 5 Benefits of a Ductless Mini-Split System

Ductless mini-split systems offer a range of compelling benefits that make them a smart choice for residential homes and commercial buildings.

These compact and flexible systems have become popular because they provide efficient mini-split heating and cooling solutions while offering numerous advantages over traditional HVAC systems.

Some customers might find that
mini-split systems have disadvantages, but recent technological advances and the differences between multi-zone vs. single-zone mini-split efficiency have made many of them as easy to use as traditional centralized systems.

And though the benefits are many, here are five that make them a no-brainer for home and office use:

1. Energy Efficiency:

Compared to traditional HVAC systems, ductless mini-split systems are far more energy efficient.

These ductless mini split AC systems require less power (less electricity) to heat and cool the air in your home or business and maintain your desired temperature over time.

Every HVAC system has a SEER rating, a numerical measurement of the unit's efficiency.

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, and the higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the system.

The minimum SEER rating required by the U.S. Department of Energy is 13. Blueridge ductless mini split units have SEER ratings ranging from 16 to a whopping 38!

While the upfront cost of a mini split 38 SEER unit will be higher than that of a 16 SEER unit, the energy and cost savings over time will be far greater with the higher SEER unit, resulting in not just conserved energy but also lower utility bills.

2. Personalized Comfort and Whisper Quiet Performance:

Two standout features of ductless mini split units are their independent "zone" temperature control and quiet performance.

In a traditional forced air system, occupants have little control over how heated or cooled air circulates through their house or office space.

Treated air must journey through a maze of ducts before it reaches each room, all while losing its temperature.

Meanwhile, a centrally-located thermostat determines when the desired temperature has been reached, leaving many rooms hotter or cooler than expected.

Other variables, such as room occupancy and personal preferences, leave many families and co-workers battling over the thermostat.

Enter the ductless mini-split system, which allows users to control the climate in each living space or “zone” independently.

Each indoor unit occupies a specific zone and can be programmed by remote control or, in many cases, connected to your smartphone or smart home hub.

With each zone customized to its occupants' preferences, mini-splits offer an incredible amount of personalized comfort over traditional HVAC systems.

This allows for lower utility bills and eliminates those unpleasant disagreements over temperature settings.

(Save money and improve relationships? Mini-splits for the win!)

3. Easy Installation and Maintenance:

Installing a ducted HVAC system can be time-consuming and disruptive, often involving extensive ductwork modifications and high installation costs.

Ductless mini-split heat and air systems require minimal invasive work, and the cost to install a mini-split may surprise you. With its modular nature, replacing mini-split components after years of use is much easier than repairs on traditional ducted systems.

These systems consist of a small indoor unit that is wall or ceiling-mounted and connected to an outdoor unit through a small conduit. Our ceiling cassette mini-splits and ducted mini-splits seamlessly hide the indoor components. Alternatively, hiding a ductless mini-split wall unit is easy. You'll forget it's even there.

This streamlined mini-split installation process saves time, and the DIY-friendly nature of the job reduces renovation expenses. It also makes it easy to make repairs or add additional units if and when needed.

Mini-split systems are low maintenance, to boot. Keep the outdoor unit clear of landscaping debris and make sure to remove the indoor unit's filter(s) periodically and wash with soapy water. Occasionally, the filter(s) will need replacement. That's it!

4. Improved Indoor Air Quality:

Ducted systems can accumulate dust, allergens, and other pollutants inside the ductwork and spread them throughout the home or building.

Ductless mini-split heat and air systems eliminate this concern since they do not use ducts.

By filtering and purifying the air before releasing it into the space, these systems contribute to better indoor air quality, creating a healthier and more comfortable environment for the occupants who live, play, work, or congregate there.

5. Environmental Friendliness:

As environmental concerns grow, ductless mini-split systems present an eco-friendly option for heating and cooling.

These systems minimize energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions through their energy-efficient operation, zoning capabilities, and use of inverter technology.

Opting for a ductless mini-split reduces our ecological footprint and supports sustainability efforts.

Not only that, but the United States government has clarified the importance of clean energy and more energy-efficient homes and businesses. Rebate programs are now in effect, putting even more money back into your wallet for choosing to do something good—for yourself, your home, and your environment.

Ductless HVAC mini split systems offer a multitude of benefits, enhancing comfort, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality while supporting environmental responsibility.

These systems provide a practical and eco-conscious solution for year-round climate control, whether for residential use, commercial spaces, or even in new construction projects.
